In-line high shear mixers offer the possibility to pump, disperse, homogenize and emulsify products using the same equipment. Many chemical, food processing, pharmaceutical and cosmetic production processes require this system due to the presence of piping for ingredient separation or due to the lack of sufficient space in the tank to install tank mixers vertically or at the bottom. These mixers are particularly useful in existing plants. They can work with recirculation tanks after the product has passed through the mixer several times to achieve optimum efficiency.
Materials
Parts in contact with the product: 316L
Other stainless steel parts: 304
Mechanical seal: C / SiC / EPDM
Gasket: EPDM
Surface polishing electropolishing: Ra≤0.8µm
Working Principle
The housing is similar to the housing of a centrifugal pump, which houses the stator and the rotor. It is characterized by high shear forces due to the adjusted tolerances between the rotor and the stator and the high rotational speed of the rotor. The product is drawn in through the inlet and the rotor pushes it towards the stator. Through the slits in the stator, the product is mechanically sheared and the particles are sheared by the rotor at a speed of more than 20 m/s. Finally, the liquid stream is hydraulically sheared, which causes the stator to pass through the slot at high speed. If the viscosity of the product is higher than 200 cP, it is recommended to place an auxiliary pump at the inlet of the mixer, and if a higher discharge pressure is required, another auxiliary pump must be assembled.
